Turks and Caicos villas by area

Most stays are on Providenciales, so the choice comes down to which shore you want. The north side has the swim zones, while the south has quiet bays and a lagoon.

  1. Grace Bay and The Bight: the north shore

Grace Bay is the center of the island’s tourism, with white buoys marking the swim areas along the sand. The Bight, at its west end, has reef close to the beach.

  3. Long Bay: wind and shallow water

The beach faces southeast, and government maps show two kiteboarding sites here. The water stays shallow a long way out.

Homes here: Triton Estate and others

  4. Turtle Cove and Thompson Cove: closest to the airport

Six to nine minutes from the terminal. Turtle Cove has a marina and more mapped snorkeling points than anywhere else on the island.

Homes here: Silver Sands and others

  5. Turtle Tail: the south shore

Houses along one long road on the south side, about 17 minutes from the airport and from Grace Bay.

  6. Chalk Sound and Silly Creek: the lagoon

Homes on the edge of Chalk Sound National Park. You swim from your own pool here, and Sapodilla Bay and Taylor Bay are the closest beaches.

  7. Sapodilla Bay and Taylor Bay: shallow southwest bays

Two calm bays on the south side with shallow water, 14 to 20 minutes from the airport.

  8. Other islands

Parrot Cay and Ambergris Cay are private islands, and North Caicos is a ferry ride from Providenciales.

Where to stay in Turks and Caicos

Why Turks and Caicos

Beaches open to everyone

Government policy describes the beaches as public places open to all. A villa can sit right behind the sand, and the sand stays open to the public.

Reef close to the sand

Government maps mark 24 beach snorkeling points off Providenciales, and 20 of them are at Turtle Cove and Northwest Point.

Nonstop from the US

The official tourism site lists nine US cities with nonstop flights, and private jets have two terminals of their own at the airport.

Local tips for Turks and Caicos

  1. Swim inside the white buoys at Grace Bay. They mark the safe swimming areas, and red and green markers show the lanes boats must use to reach the beach.
  2. Leave the shells where they are. In the national parks it’s illegal to take them, even empty ones.
  3. Don’t plan on a jet ski. They aren’t allowed in protected areas.
  4. Take Leeward Highway slowly after dark. The UK government warns of more accidents there at night, and street lighting is limited away from the main roads.
  5. Buy wine before Sunday. Shops don’t sell alcohol on Sundays, though bars and restaurants still serve.

What to know before your trip to Turks and Caicos

Getting to Turks and Caicos

Most international flights land at Howard Hamilton International Airport on Providenciales, still widely called Providenciales International. The code is PLS, and customs and immigration are open from 6 am to 8 pm.

Coming fromNonstop to PLS
NortheastNew York (JFK), Philadelphia, Washington (IAD)
SoutheastAtlanta, Charlotte, Miami, Orlando
TexasDallas, Houston
Airlines namedAmerican, Delta, JetBlue, United

Cities and airlines as listed on the official tourism site. Others fly by season, and schedules change. Caicos Express and interCaribbean connect the islands, and South Caicos has a direct flight from Miami.

Entry requirements

US citizens don’t need a visa. Border Force says a US passport must be valid for your whole stay, while the official tourism site asks for six months beyond departure, so six months covers both.

Visitors normally get up to 90 days, and officers may ask for a return or onward ticket. Traveling with a child who isn’t yours? Bring a letter from the parents with their contact details.

Getting around

Most guests rent a car. Driving is on the left, although most rental cars are left-hand drive. Uber and Lyft don’t operate here, and taxis usually charge per person.

Money and tax

The US dollar is the currency. A 12% hotel and tourism tax applies to vacation rentals, and each company’s quote shows the taxes it adds.

Power and water

Outlets are 120 volts at 60 Hz with US plugs (types A and B), so you won’t need adapters. About 90% of the piped water on Providenciales comes from a reverse osmosis plant run by Provo Water Company.

When to go

Average highs run from 81 °F (27 °C) in winter to 90 °F (32 °C) from July to September, so the calendar matters more for rates than for weather.

Turks and Caicos villas: questions

Short answers here; each house lists its own rules and minimum stays.

When is the best time to go to Turks and Caicos?

February to April are the driest months, with rain on two or three days a month at the airport, and March is the busiest. May and June bring fewer people before the storm peak. In our quotes, the median seven-night total was $64,252 in mid-March and $51,829 from mid-April to early August (villa rental statistics). Each total is the company’s quote, with the fees and taxes it lists.

Which Turks and Caicos villas are on the beach?

Companies list about 73% of Turks and Caicos homes as beachfront, the highest share in our villa rental statistics. The government’s beach access policy calls every beach a public place, so walkers can still pass in front of the house.

Is staff included in Turks and Caicos, and can we book a private chef?

About six in ten Turks and Caicos homes on Gladori have staff on the listing. Others offer housekeeping or a chef for a fee, and each listing separates the two. A chef for a few dinners, or a kitchen stocked from your list, can be booked through the company or our concierge page. Buy wine before Sunday: shops don’t sell alcohol that day, though bars and restaurants still serve.

What does a stay in a Turks and Caicos villa cost?

Stays start from $32,281 for 7 nights. Each total is the company’s quote, with the fees and taxes it lists. A 12% hotel and tourism tax applies to vacation rentals. A chef, staff or a boat day is quoted separately, and the listing shows which.

How do I get to Turks and Caicos?

Fly nonstop to Providenciales (PLS). The official tourism site lists flights from at least nine US cities, among them New York, Atlanta, Charlotte, Miami, Dallas and Houston. Most guests then rent a car and drive on the left, since Uber and Lyft don’t operate here and taxis usually charge per person.

Can we charter a boat to the cays in Turks and Caicos?

Leeward is the boat side of Providenciales, with docks and marinas beside a nature reserve, and a few homes on Gladori list a dock of their own. Little Water Cay, home to rock iguanas, is about 15 minutes away by boat. Inside the marine parks the limit is 15 mph (24 km/h), and jet skis are allowed only in marked ski zones.

Are there all-inclusive villas in Turks and Caicos?

Ambergris Cay, a private island, is sold as all-inclusive. On Providenciales, meals depend on the house, and each listing shows what’s covered.

Do Turks and Caicos villas have a private pool?

Yes, all of the Turks and Caicos homes on Gladori list one, and about half have an infinity edge. With small children, ask the company whether the pool is fenced.

Is Turks and Caicos good for families with young children?

Grace Bay is the easy choice: it has marked swim zones, and boats keep to their own lanes. Sapodilla Bay is calm and shallow, with no buoys. Where to stay in Turks and Caicos compares the areas.

What happens in Turks and Caicos during hurricane season?

Since 1966, 8 hurricanes have passed within 58 miles of Providenciales, and September is the month to watch, with a hurricane in 4 of the last 60 years (hurricane odds by island). Read the company’s cancellation terms on the listing before you pay a deposit.

Can we have a wedding or a group event at a Turks and Caicos villa?

Ask the company in writing before you book: whether the house allows an event, how many guests and what it charges. A ceremony on the sand is possible, but the beaches are public, so people may walk by. For the marriage licence, contact the Registrar General’s office before you travel.

Can I bring my dog to Turks and Caicos?

Only with the paperwork done ahead. Border Force says every pet needs health documents and an import permit issued in advance by the Department of Agriculture. Check with the company too, since each house sets its own rule.
